Why Eravale?

Since December 2025, I have slowly developed a worldbuilding project that combines my love of mythical creatures, nature and whimsical storytelling. This short, yet important blog post is going to briefly dive into the process of creating Eravale, why I chose to make it and what I hope it does for me as a creator.

Despite claiming that Eravale "officially" started at the end of the 2025, without realising at the time, it in fact began many years ago - quietly sitting within the pages of my forgotten, unfinished sketchbooks. For some time my paintings felt disconnected from each other. I slowly realised I was beginning to follow the same, repeating pattern: I think of a concept, I sketch it, I paint it and then I post it. Among the sketchbook pages, you'll find an incomplete creature sketch from when I was in university, perhaps a loosely-drawn wilderness from a vague memory of a day out. These fragmented illustrations were missing just one thing: a world to belong to.

From what we know so far, Eravale is a high-fantasy world that is vastly ruled by dense forests. Within these woods, creatures inhabit the world known as Guardians, the majority of whom are identifed by their ornate antlers. Some of these species include bears, mammoths, foxes, birds, stoats and badgers; all adorned with antlers and horns of different shapes and sizes.

Only recently, we have now discovered there are pockets of civilisation; groups of humanoids we only know as The Masked Folk. These pilgrims appear to view the Guardians as their own creators, but have also been observed domesticating the smaller Guardians as mounts or livestock.

Eravale has opened a door that has allowed me to give my artwork its true identity. Through the recurring themes of moss-covered statues, antlered creatures and vast woodland scenery, I am able to build a hidden history in a world yet to be fully discovered even by myself. For those who are following me on this journey, I am excited for what we will discover together.
